NATO Innovation Range Technical Demonstration for Eastern Flank Deterrence Line (EFDL) brings together NATO Allied Land Command (LANDCOM) and NATO’s Defence Industry, Innovation and Armaments (D2IA) Division, industry partners Nokia, Telia, NEST AI, and VTT along with innovative startups and companies.

Objective is to identify, test, and demonstrate solutions that strengthen NATO’s operational resilience. The event is co-organized by the Defence Innovation Network Finland (DEFINE) ecosystem.

Technical Demonstration is part of the Task Force X – Eastern Flank Deterrence Line (TFX-EFDL) Pilot #2.5 series and aims to identify, test, and demonstrate innovative solutions that strengthen NATO’s operational resilience through AI-driven data connectivity, unmanned systems interoperability, and mission assurance in contested environments.

Challenge areas

Participants will be tasked to present and demonstrate solutions addressing one or more of the following challenge areas:

• Resilient Connectivity: Ensure robust and secure data exchange between unmanned systems operating in contested electromagnetic environments
• AI-Enhanced Decision Support: Use artificial intelligence to improve situational awareness, decision-making, and automation across command and control systems
• 5G/6G and Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTN) Integration: Demonstrate how next-generation communication technologies can enhance battlefield connectivity and spectral agility
• Mission Assurance in Extreme Conditions: Enable continuity of operations and data integrity in harsh Arctic or high-latitude environments

Solutions should demonstrate interoperability with existing digital command environments, including SITAWARE and MAVEN, and leverage technologies at least at TRL 5.

Technical Demonstration builds on the outcomes of previous EFDL demonstration pilots conducted under LANDCOM’s Task Force X initiative. These pilots identified the need for improved data enablement, secure AI integration, and resilient connectivity to support unmanned systems in complex operational conditions.

Event will provide an open testbed within the DEFINE ecosystem, allowing both NATO and industry participants to explore practical applications and advance toward Testing, Evaluation, Verification, and Validation (TEVV) readiness.
